Introduction:

Canada has long acknowledged the valuable contributions of caregivers from abroad through specialized immigration pathways that facilitate their permanent settlement. However, from June 19th, 2024, until the introduction of new pilot programs, there will be no dedicated federal pathway to permanent residency for home care service providers. Caregivers in Canada must have an immigration plan in place well before their documents expire to maintain their status and benefit from upcoming program releases. On June 3rd, 2024, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced plans to launch new pilot programs, enabling Canadian employers to hire foreign caregivers. These new programs are anticipated to start in late 2024 or early 2025, following the conclusion of the current pilots on June 19th, 2024. Currently, only limited details are available regarding the administration of these new programs.
