Introduction:

Canada’s new permanent caregiver immigration program significantly shifts from the previous pilot initiatives, creating a stable and streamlined pathway for foreign caregivers. The program offers greater flexibility with an occupation-restricted open work permit, removing employer-specific conditions and allowing caregivers to change jobs within their occupation. With a reduced requirement of just 6 months of qualifying full-time Canadian caregiving experience, applicants can apply for permanent residence more quickly. The program emphasizes stronger protections for caregivers, continues to support family accompaniment, and eliminates the need for an LMIA, easing the burden on employers. It reflects Canada’s commitment to addressing labour market needs while safeguarding the rights and well-being of caregivers and their families.
