Frequently Asked Questions

What is Goal Wizard?

It is a new system adapted by CICC where you will be able to log your CPD/PD hours. This tool will be used to assist CICC members and registrants in identifying their developmental goals as well as which CPD/PD activities will best meet these goals.

How to choose CPD Course?

RCICs will choose their CPD courses based on their line of expertise and their clientele.  You choose the field that you need to know more about, and the system will provide you with the related CPD courses. Then you decide what courses to take. Every RCIC must take at least one CPD hour of ethics as well.

What is the minimum CPD hours requirement?

Active Members

Members in good standing are required to achieve the minimum CPD requirements of 16 hours in order to maintain practicing status.

Members on Leave

A Member on leave, duly approved by the Registrar, is still required to earn CPD hours

for the duration of the leave. A Member will receive one (1) CPD hour reduction for each

month he/she is on leave.

Suspended Members

A suspended Member is still required to complete the annual minimum CPD

requirements. Failure to complete this requirement may result in non-completion fines

and penalties as outlined under section 17 in this Regulation. A Member may submit a

remedial CPD plan to the Registrar for approval before reinstatement.

New Members

New Members, in the year of becoming a Member, are required to complete one CPD

hour for each month or partial month remaining in the calendar year. Members who

join in October, November or December are not required to earn any CPD hours for that

calendar year. The term for earning 16 CPD hours begins in January of the following

year.

What is the term to fulfill the CPD requirement?

Previously, a Member was required to earn 16 CPD hours by 11:59 p.m. (local time) December 31 each

calendar year.

Recently, ICCRC has changed the term to obtain CPD hours:

  • From: January 1 – December 30
  • To: July 1 – June 30

Please refer to “Meeting Your Obligations” on Page 5  ICCRC September Bulletin , sent on September 16, 2020.

September Bulletin from ICCRC states:

 CPD/PD Reporting

As part of this year Annual Renewal, you needed to report your 2019 CPD/PD. As we are still working remotely, we were not able to update this information in the current My CPD Hours system. However, we will be verifying that all required hours have been completed.

The Council is currently developing a new system for the fall of this year – Goal Wizard –

where you will be able to log your CPD/PD hours. This tool will be used to assist our members and registrants in identifying their developmental goals as well as which CPD/PD activities will best meet these goals.

For your 2020 CPD/PD, please note that the deadline to complete them has been extended to June 30, 2021. This six-month extension will allow you additional time to acclimate to the upcoming Goal Wizard system.

Moving forward, the period to complete your yearly CPD/PD obligation will be from July 1 to June 30 of the following year, which mirrors the annual membership/registration period as well as the Council’s fiscal year.

Who is responsible to report CPD hours?

A Member is responsible for reporting his/her CPD hours by submitting the required Reporting Form together with any supporting documentation. A Provider, offering to report CPD hours on behalf of participants, does not relieve the responsibility of a Member to ensure his/her CPD hours have been properly reported.

When is the deadline to report earned CPD hours?

All reporting forms and supporting documentation must be received by the ICCRC headquarters no later than January 31 for each prior calendar year. Non-completion fines and penalties will be assessed based on all reporting forms and supporting documentation received from the Member by the January 31 reporting deadline.

Although CICC has changed the term to obtain CPD hours:

  • From: January 1 – December 30
  • To: July 1 – June 30

It is still unclear what the revised reporting deadline would be. Please stay tuned. We will update this page as we get new information.

How many CPD hours to carry-over?

A Member may carry-over a maximum of six (6) CPD hours to the next calendar year from any CPD hours earned and reported in excess of the minimum hours required for that year.

What are the overall CPD subject matter requirements?

Only Canadian immigration/citizenship-related legislation count towards credits for CPD

hours. The primary objective is to increase a Member’s professional competence. The

content should deal with all or any of the following topics:

  1. a) Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA)
  2. b) Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations
  3. c) Citizenship Act
